The BBC have unveiled a new promo pic and official synopsis for the Doctor Who Christmas special

Peter Capaldi’s Doctor stands centre next to David Bradley’s incarnation of the very first Doctor, originally portrayed by William Hartnell between 1963 to 1966.

A golden glow covering the Doctor’s hand hints at his inevtiable regeneration, which is expected to take place at the end of this Christmas special.

Equally surprising is the inclusion of companion Bill Potts and while Pearl Mackie’s role had already been confirmed, fans were expecting her to have a more fluid appearance.

In the recent finale episode, Bill had been stuck in the form of a deadly Cyberman but was rescued by her doomed fate and turned into a sentient oil puddle that can travel the universe.
